Farmer’s Market Finds

Some of our favorite Saturday’s are spent at the local Farmer’s Market. This time around, I made it a point to remember what we tried, loved, and want to talk about with others. I can’t wait to share with you because I know you and your family will love them too!

 

First stop was to Hoffman’s Organic Grill.  To say their chicken is good would be an understatement. I’m pretty sure I told them my life was forever changed after eating their chicken. My mouth is seriously watering thinking about their chicken thighs on a stick! In fact, both of my picky eaters ate their entire chicken thigh! If you’ve never tried Hoffman Organic Grill, you are missing out! They come highly recommended by the Bowersock crew.

 

 

From there, we headed for dessert (yeah, we only had chicken for lunch…don’t judge me). The girls wanted cookies so we stopped over at Pure Sugar Creations and got the girls some sugar cookies and chocolate chip cookies. I just have to say, the owner was so sweet which made me even more glad we stopped. What were the reviews on the cookies? Well, my oldest shoved 3 cookies in her mouth while we weren’t looking if that tells you anything. I may or may not have had 2 cookies later that night. They are most definitely worth a stop!

 

For dinner that night, we decided to pick up some vegetables and the most amazing summer sausage from Master’s Hand BBQ. Not only did the husband and I enjoy it but the girls did too. I’m not exaggerating when I say, you’ll never be able to eat just any ol’ summer sausage again. This is the real deal, good stuff people! I definitely suggest stopping to pick up a few different types of summer sausage at the next local Farmer’s Market!

 

Somehow, we found ourselves at Beachler’s Sugar Bush next. I mean, I know we told the girls one dessert but, you guys, this was cotton candy made from maple sugar! Maple sugar! I can hardly even talk about how amazing this was without going nearly insane over needing more. If you think cotton candy is good, you ain’t tried nothing yet. I highly suggest stopping by their booth the  next time you are out, my Fort Wayne friends! Oh, and when you do, will you pick up another bag for us because I may have ate over half the bag and got yelled at by my daughters…

 

Last, but certainly not least, the world’s best popsicle from Xisco’s Pops. Anyone who knows me knows I’m all about healthy, all natural food (especially treats for the kids). I ended up trying one I was very skeptical about (Avocado and Coconut) and I loved it! Not only did I love it but my husband and both the girls did too, so much so we ended up getting another one! To top it off, the owner is down to earth, sweet, and works at 800 Degrees and anyone that works at 800 Degrees and makes all natural popsicles, has to be good people.  If you only went to the next Farmer’s Market for these sweet and healthy treats, you would not be disappointed!

The BEST Healthy Fudge

I am always looking for easy, low effort desserts that include nothing but natural, raw ingredients. With so much disease on the rise, I try to keep my family away from processed foods as much as possible. It can make eating a little challenging but I’ve always been one up for a challenge. 😉 Thankfully, I found Detoxinista who has made this a whole lot easier. I love her PB Fudge! I only added one ingredient, Shaklee Life Protein, to it (but feel free to leave it out if you aren’t the protein type).

INGREDIENTS
  • ½ cup natural organic peanut butter
  • 1 tablespoon raw honey, or sweetener of choice
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil, softened
  • 2 Scoops of Shaklee Life Protein (vanilla)
INSTRUCTIONS
  1. Combine all of the ingredients in a small bowl, and mix until a smooth batter forms.
  2. Transfer the batter to a dish lined with parchment paper, and smooth with a spatula.
  3. Place the dish in the freezer, and allow to set for 20-30 minutes, or until firm.
  4. Cut into squares, and serve immediately!

Mango Salad

Mango Salad

Raise your hand if you are always looking for simple, healthy and tasty lunches! This is one of my favorite salads. The mango tops it off and makes for a party in your mouth!

Salad Ingredients:

  • 2-4 cups of baby spinach

  • 1 mango, diced

  • Goat Cheese, crumbled

  • Sliced Almonds

  • 1/4 cup sweet onion, thinly sliced

  • 1 lb Ground Turkey

Dressing Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 tablespoons olive oil

  • 1/4 cup lemon juice

  • dried basil to taste

  • garlic powder to taste

  • salt & pepper to taste

  • 1 teaspoon honey

Directions for Dressing: Mix all ingredients together in a Mason Jar and store in the refrigerator.

Directions for Salad:

  1. wash all vegetables and assemble salad in a large bowl

  2. Brown the ground turkey in a skillet and make sure cooked through.

  3. Season meat with salt and pepper.

  4. Let the meat cool completely

  5. top 1/2 LB of meat on the salad

  6. pour dressing over the salad (you won’t need to use the entire jar)

  7. Serve and enjoy

Tip: save the rest of dressing and meat for lunch the next day!

Whether it’s Saturday morning or Monday morning, there is never a wrong time for pancakes & Pioneer Woman makes the best (well, she makes the best everything). I took her pancake recipe and adapted it to something a little more healthy and nutritious for my little family. They really are delicious and simple!

INGREDIENTS

  • 3 cups Fresh Milled Flour (see below for info) Plus 2 Tablespoons Shaklee Life Protein (Vanilla)
  • 3 Tablespoons Baking Powder
  • 2 Tablespoons Raw Stevia
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 cups Vanilla Almond Milk
  • 2 whole Large Eggs
  • 3 teaspoons Pure Vanilla Extract
  • 4 Tablespoons Butter, Melted
  •  Maple Syrup or Honey

 

Directions

Mix together dry ingredients in large bowl.

Mix together milk, eggs, and vanilla in a separate bowl.

Add wet ingredients to dry ingredients, stirring gently until just combined.

Melt butter and add it to the batter and stir gently to combine.

Cook the pancakes & enjoy!

Chocolate Peanut Butter Ice cream

Chocolate Peanut Butter Ice cream

I don’t know about you but my vice is ice cream, especially in the summer. I mean come on … I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream! In an effort to bring some health to this summertime family addiction, I grabbed some frozen bananas, peanut butter, cocoa powder, dark chocolate chips, and an ice cream maker and tried my hand at some healthy(er) homemade ice cream and it wasn’t too bad! I mean listen, if you are expecting this to taste like DQ ice cream, you will be sorely disappointed so let’s have some realistic expectation here. 😉

Ingredients:

  • 2 frozen bananas
  • ½ cup, cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup, all natural peanut butter (or almond butter)
  • 1 cup, Almond Milk
  • ½ cup, chocolate chips  (plus more for topping)

Directions:

  1. In a blender, mix all the ingredients (minus the chocolate chips)
  2. transfer the mixture to your ice cream maker
  3. once the ice cream is done, transfer into a freezer – safe container for later or serve immediately!
