“Dear Maria”… a letter from Mom

image1-11

I came across this card last week. It was written for me while I was in a different season of my life. A season full of horrific choices I made. A season where I decided if I was really (and I mean really) follow Jesus or if I was done. As Mom sat writing this letter, she was doing so with the intention of being my cheerleader to keep running the race (Hebrews 12:1). As Mom sat writing this letter, Jesus knew it would serve a purpose for more … for a time such at this, amputation of a loved one (s). Here I share with you something personal from my Mom to her daughter, but please don’t miss the point. You see, my mom loved me well. I even just told my husband the other day, “I think I forgot the details of just how amazing mom was”, but friends, her love for me only went as far as her love for Jesus and he’s taking it from here now.

Ok Baby Girl,

You can do this! I know you inside and out (second to God who created your inner more being (Psalm 139)), and we both know you can do this and do it for His glory and it be for your good (Romans 8). Read Jeremiah 1:5 and know He created you and I get to be here to encourage you. We walk by faith and not by sight. We are His children, his warriors and you, my lovely daughter, are in His army. This is just more training ground BUT it is also a time to laugh, play, enjoy and experience great things. Embrace all (good, bad, happy, sad) that He has for you in these moments. He has you in them and you are safe to praise Him in the midst of it all. He is good and He is great and He, sweet child, is ALL about you! He is all about your heart, your thoughts, your feelings, and your future. Remember He is omni present and you have His promise to always be with you. My heart as well is for you always, every moment of every day. I love you will all that I am and am here for you every moment I can be. You are always with this family in all that we do just as we are with you in all you do. What God has created no man nor anything can separate us from it (Matthew 19). We are inseparable as we are inseparable from our God. Continuously tell yourself truth and refuse to listen to any lies.

I am already making plans for the Labor Day weekend at the lake.

I love you honey pumpkin pie,

Momma

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”

Jeremiah 1:5

  1. (Deep breath)…I’m awake because I can’t sleep and my mind is racing. I was laying here in bed thinking about your blog, and starting to write. I was thinking that I can’t wait until you post again. As I’m laying here I hear my email notification go off. I look and I see that there is a Woman Named Freed blog in my inbox. I literally laughed out loud!God and His timing Oh my!!!
I saw the title and hesitated…I knew what you were going to do…I knew that I’d be bawling in a few…see, our mom’s were kind of the same person when it came to Jesus and the lessons they took from Him and the mire that He brought them out of and their love for you and me….I started reading with kleenex in hand…What you wrote; what I read, it shot through my heart. I’m starting a new journey in therapy and I’m scared and I know it’s going to be all kinds of bad and gut wrenchingly painful…but “Pretty Kim” wrote this and I want to claim it for my own if I may borrow it from you…”He is all about your heart, your thoughts, your feelings, and your future. Remember He is omni present and you have His promise to always be with you”! WOWZA WOMAN!!! I need that champion in my life! No doubt our mom’s were our biggest ones..cheering us on daily! But Jesus is the Captain of the Cheer Squad!!! He is chanting louder and stronger with more pep and energy than anyone ever could for us! So, I’m going to get up and start my day, start my week with that written out and taped everywhere I can read it and claim it! Your mom encouraged you back then, and still encouraging me now. I am picturING your mom and my mom standing at the right hand of God in cute cheerleaders outfits (old skool BCS ones….nothing slutty like today’s are)… lol with pompoms in hand chanting “BE AGGRESSIVE BE-E AGGRESSIVE! B-E A-G-G-R-E-S-S-I-V-E! AGGRESSIVE AGGRESSIVE AGGRESSIVE ARE WE!!!”. I need to be aggressive about my love and my relationship with Him! Everything else will fall in to place.
    I love you “Free”…❤❤

  2. Oh Maria! This brought tears of joy! When your mother wrote: “My heart as well is for you always, every moment of every day” I couldn’t help but think of the love we have for our own children. I believe we are given the gift of children so that we can encounter a fraction of the love that comes from the Father. Knowing how much your mamma loved you, how much I love my son…and that love can’t even hold a candle to the love of our Heavenly Father. Wow! Such a gift! He loves us “every moment of every day” and He is always for us! Thank you for sharing!

  3. Greetings from Florida! I’m bored to death at work so I decided to check out your site on my iphone during lunch break. I enjoy the knowledge you provide here and can’t wait to take a look when I get home. I’m shocked at how fast your blog loaded on my cell phone .. I’m not even using WIFI, just 3G ..
